2017-2018 Rebate Guidelines

A partnership with the Ohio Bureau of Workers’ Compensation, the Dayton/Miami Valley Safety Council is able to offer its participating members an opportunity to save up 4% on their annual BWC premiums with the Ohio Bureau of Workers’ Compensation Safety Rebate Program. 

Members of the Dayton/Miami Valley Safety Council participate in monthly workplace safety education and training meetings and an annual safety conference in October where the most state of the art workplace safety techniques and training are discussed.  Through participating in safety council programs and not increasing your claims with the BWC, your business can directly receive a rebate of up to 4% on your annual Ohio BWC premiums.  To be eligible for the Safety Rebate Program, businesses must sign up with the Dayton/Miami Valley Safety Council by July 31, 2017.

Eligibility Requirements

  • Become a member of the Dayton/Miami Valley Safety Council by July 31, 2017;
  • Send a company representative to a minimum of 10 meetings or events hosted by the Dayton/Miami Valley Safety Council (8 of these MUST be attended through the DMVSC, 2 credits can be obtained through external trainings excluding online, between July 1, 2017 and June 30, 2018;
  • Have the company's highest ranking authority, typically the CEO, attend any one Safety Council sponsored meeting or function between July 1, 2017 and June 30, 2018;
  • Submit semi-annual reports for the 2017 calendar year.

Group Experience Rated Companies
Group experience rated program employers who meet program eligibility requirements can earn a 2% performance bonus rebate. To earn this performance bonus, these employers must reduce either the severity or frequency of injuries in their workplace by 10% or maintain both at zero. They will not be eligible for the 2% participation portion.

Group Retrospective Companies
If all rebate eligibility requirements are met, employers will earn the initial 2% participation rebate. They will not be eligible for the 2% performance bonus.

To begin earning the 10 credits toward the Safety Council Rebate Program, we encourage companies to register for the 10 training programs of their choice by returning a completed Safety Breakfast with the Experts Registration Form.

Group Rating 2 Hour Required Training

The Ohio Bureau of Workers’ Compensation has continued a mandate requiring specific group rated employers to attend a mandatory two-hour workplace safety training session.   Companies participation in the July 1, 2016 Group Rating Program and having one or more claims with the BWC during the green year 2015, the BWC has indicated that you must meet this safety training requirement by June 30, 2017.
