PIQUA, Ohio. Prepared to meet the need for qualified drivers in the Dayton region, a new Dayton-area CDL training academy opened a 15-acre training facility in Piqua.
Drivers Edge CDL Training Academy will provide training for Class A and Class B drivers at its facility at 7450 Union-Shelby Road.
Drivers Edge owner Kimberly Kegley is an OTR owner-operator and CDL Examiner. She and her instructors boast 25 years of experience in the CDL industry. Drivers Edge CDL Training Academy will focus on small class sizes, allowing students more time behind the wheel. The school’s facility also includes a large concrete skill pad, which gives students plenty of room to practice their backing maneuver skills.
Drivers Edge was born out of a nationwide shortage of qualified for-hire drivers. According to the American Trucking Association, the shortage stood at roughly 48,000 in 2015. With direct access to Interstates 70 and 75 as well as access to air freight facilities and rail, Kegley believes the Dayton region is a perfect fit for her business.
“The Dayton area is strategically situated in one of the most logistically advantageous locations in the world, which means there will always be a need for CDL drivers,” Kegley said. “We are excited to be in the Dayton region as we strive for excellence and successful students.”
A March 15 ribbon cutting and open house will give guests the opportunity to explore the training academy and meet the instructors while enjoying refreshments.
