Small Business Saturday is November 28

Small Business Saturday is November 28, 2020. While this year may look different due to COVID-19, it’s more important now more than ever that we make an effort to support small businesses this holiday season. Many of them are relying on this sales bump to survive. Below is a list of chamber member businesses that have participated in the past in our Small Business Saturday efforts, as a Small Business Saturday Neighborhood Champion:

Now more than ever

Funded in part by American Express, Main Street America conducted an online survey in late March 2020 to assess the impact of COVID-19 on the approximately 300,000 small businesses across the nonprofit’s network. Main Street America is a grassroots network made up of small towns, mid-sized communities, and urban commercial districts that focuses on preservation-based economic development and community revitalization across the country.

The COVID-19 survey was designed to help us understand small businesses’ ability to withstand what may be several months of suppressed revenue and what kids of support programs will have the most impact. The survey garnered a response from more than 5,850 small business owners.

Key Findings:

  • Approximately 30% of respondents said their businesses never closed due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
  • 53% closed at some point, but have since reopened.
  • More than 60 percent of respondent business owners indicated they planned to leverage regular revenues, e-commerce revenues, grants, and/or promotions with gift certificates and memberships, and did not plan to leverage credit card debt, bank loans, new lines of credit, or government loans.
  • Encouraging news for our chamber of commerce and member businesses: In Ohio, approximately 64% of respondents noted they’d received some form of assistance from their local chamber.
